The load decides the build. A walkway and an RV pad are both concrete on the ground, but one carries footsteps and the other carries tens of thousands of pounds on a few tire patches.
| Pad | What it carries | Usual build |
|---|---|---|
| RV, trailer, boat | Concentrated wheel and jack loads | 5 to 6 in, rebar grid, compacted base |
| Driveway extension, carport | Cars and trucks; carport posts | 4 to 6 in, reinforced; footings for posts |
| Shed | Evenly spread floor load | 4 in, reinforced, a few inches above grade |
| Hot tub | Heavy, evenly spread when filled | 4 in or more, reinforced, flat not sloped |
| AC, pool equipment, generator | Light, but must stay level | 3 to 4 in, level, above splash and runoff |
| Patio, walkway, side yard | Foot traffic and furniture | 4 in, jointed, sloped away from the house |

Concrete pad services: frequently asked questions
What kinds of concrete pads do you pour?
Ground-level pads only: RV and trailer pads, side-yard RV parking, driveway extensions on your lot, carport slabs, shed pads, AC condenser pads, pool equipment pads, hot tub pads, generator pads, patio extensions, walkways, side-yard concrete and replacement of cracked or sunken pads.
Do you pour foundations or garage slabs?
No. A slab that carries a house, casita, garage or other enclosed building is structural work with engineered plans.
Can several pads be poured in one visit?
Yes, and it usually saves money. One mobilization, one concrete order and one finishing crew can cover an RV pad, an AC pad and a walkway on the same day, where three separate small jobs would each carry a minimum charge.
Do you do stamped or decorative concrete?
Not through this site. Every pad gets a broom finish, which gives traction and wears well outdoors. Decorative finishes are a separate trade.
