What Avondale requires
Avondale's rule has three parts: no RVs, boats or trailers stored in the front yard; storage in the side or rear yard on a dust-proof surface; and screening from the street by solid fencing or walls, except on the larger rural-zoned lots.
So in most Avondale subdivisions, an RV or trailer kept at home needs a hard surface behind a solid gate.
| Rule | What it says | What it means for the pad |
|---|---|---|
| Front yard | RVs, boats and trailers may not be stored in the front yard | The pad goes in the side or rear yard |
| Surface | Stored in the side or rear yard on a dust-proof surface | Concrete meets it |
| Screening | Screened from street view by solid fencing or walls, except in AG, RR-43 and RR-18 districts | Plan the pad behind a solid gate |

Building to the rule
A concrete pad is the simplest dust-proof surface and the one that stays level. It runs from the RV gate into the side yard, sized to the rig, reinforced and sloped away from the house.
On the larger rural-zoned lots where screening is not required, owners still pour a pad to keep the rig out of the dust and level between trips.
